Discovering Infant Swimming Resource
When it comes to water safety, swimming lessons are crucial. Young or old, everyone should learn to navigate the waters. This is especially for children under four, for whom drowning is a leading cause of death. But how early can lessons begin? Well, that’s where Infant Swimming Resource comes in.
Learning About Infant Swimming Resource
Infant Swimming Resource, or ISR for short, is an option that all parents of young children should consider. It was originally started in 1966 by Dr. Harvey Barnett. Throughout the years, ISR has become immensely popular. Essentially, Infant Swimming Resource is designed to give very young children, as young as six-months-old, the training they need to survive when submerged in water. Here’s a basic overview of how the training works:
At its core, Infant Swimming Resource is dedicated to individualized lessons. The training offers students with specialized one-on-one attention. How these lessons play out depends upon each student. You see, the lessons are customized to the unique developmental level of the individual child. During ISR training, a licensed instructor works one-on-one with a single child at a time. As we mentioned earlier, training can begin much earlier in life than many parents might believe.- Babies who are 6 months to 1-year-old will learn to:
- hold their breath underwater
- roll onto their back to float
- rest and breathe without panicking
- Once children are able to walk, usually at around 1-to-6 years of age, ISR instruction can become more advanced. In addition to the earlier lessons, they’ll learn to:
- swim with their head down and their eyes open
- roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, then resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool or are rescued
